The Subclass 485 visa has two streams

  • Graduate Work Stream
  • This stream is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution with qualifications and skills relevant to specific occupations on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). The visa is granted for 18 months.
  • Post-Study Work Stream
  • This stream is available to international students who have completed a higher education degree in Australia. The duration of the visa depends on the highest qualification obtained by the applicant. Graduates with a bachelor's degree are eligible for a two-year visa, while those with a master's degree or a doctoral degree can apply for a three-year visa.

  • Holding an eligible student visa within six months before applying for the 485 visas.
  • Meeting the English language proficiency requirements.
  • Obtaining health insurance for the duration of their stay.

  • What you need to have

To be able to get this visa, you must:

  • Be under 31 years of your age
  • Have completed a recognized Engineering degree at a specified educational institution outside Australia.
  • Have held a student visa in the last 6 months
  • Apply for this visa within 6 months of your course completion
  • Arrange valid health insurance and Australian Federal Police (AFP) clearance before making an application for this visa
  • Provide evidence for Skills Assessment Application
  • Provide evidence for the required English level
  • Meet the health and character requirements for this visa

You may not be granted this visa if you have had a visa cancellation or application refusal while you were in Australia.

You will not be granted this visa if you have ever held this or SC 485 visa in past as a primary applicant.
